What Is a BMS?
BMS stands for Battery Management System. It is the brain inside your lithium battery. Without a BMS, your battery would be dangerous.
What the BMS Actually Does
- Prevents overcharging — Stops cells from exceeding 4.2V
- Prevents over-discharging — Stops cells from dropping below 2.5V
- Balances cells — Keeps all cells at equal voltage
- Limits current — Protects against short circuits
- Temperature monitoring — Stops charge/discharge in extreme temps
Understanding BMS Ratings: 100A vs 200A
The BMS rating tells you the maximum continuous current the BMS will allow before it trips protection.
